A columbarium is a structure designed for the respectful and final resting place of cremated remains. The cremated remains are placed in a cinerary urn which is then placed in a compartment in the columbarium called a niche.
The Pine Grove Mills Cemetery has two 48 niche columbariums. Each niche can hold up to two cinerary urns. The front panel of the niche is engraved with the name, and birth and death dates of the deceased. The niche serves as a memorial to help family members remember and preserve a heritage.
The columbarium niche is cost effective as compared to the costs of burial in a traditional grave.
